Short story – Learn to plan

Aria was a young girl who was filled with hopes and dreams.

Her mother used to always tell her that the way to fulfill her dreams was to make a plan. She needed to put effort into making her wishes come true.

Aria’s mother decided she will help her daughter learn the difference with a small project at home. She sat her down one day and asked her to spell out one of her wishes.

Aria said she wished her wall were not just concrete walls, she wanted life in her room.

Her mother asked her to explain more. Every day, while they prepared dinner, they talked about her wish. Slowly, Aria’s simple wish was becoming a dream. She started dreaming of her room filled with lively plants growing on the walls. Some were in pots. Others were flowering plants and vines. Some plants were growing long enough to cover her ceiling.

After a week, her mother told her, “Aria, have you noticed your simple wish has now become a full-fledged dream?” Aria was very happy.

She started hoping that he wish would come true. Her mother realized that she had lit a spark in her daughter and waited for it to take shape. She purposefully did not broach the topic for a week.

Aria felt something was missing in her daily routine – talking about her dreams. She started hoping that her dream would come true. She approached her mother and asked her about it. Her mother replied, “Now that you are hoping to see your dream come true, it’s time to plan. Start putting some effort to make it happen. Small efforts every day go a long way to make progress. Putting them in the right sequence helps make progress in a structured manner”.

Aria bought some seeds on her way back home the next day. She planned to buy a few small pots over the weekend. She would sow the seeds and water them every day.

Friday – Buy some pots

Saturday – Buy soil

Sunday – Sow seeds & water the pots

Monday – Water the pots every day

Tuesday – Explore the next seed to be planted

Wednesday – Discuss with mom

Thursday – Buy the new seeds

Friday – Buy the pots to sow these seeds

… and it continued

Aria felt nice. Planning felt good. Writing down her thoughts made her feel confident that she could actually implement them and see her dream take shape.

Two months later, Aria entered her bedroom. It no longer was just concrete walls. Instead, it felt like a living space with plants growing all around the room. Her mom smiled with pride.

Aira had found a way to make her wishes come true – by learning how to plan 🙂
