A middle-aged man approached Maha Periyava (Saint of Kanchi), and with a worn look sought his blessings to get rid of his difficulties. He said, “Periyava! I am facing so many difficulties that I do not seem to have the energy to live anymore! I solve one problem and another springs up! There does not seem to be an end to my challenges. I do not know how to resolve them and seem to be losing my energy and will to fight these anymore! Can you please recommend an easy way for me to get rid of my difficulties please!”.
Maha Periyava looked at him and smiled. The all-knowing smile, that knew that difficulties were meant to be, no one can get rid of them, one can know learn and seek to have the strength to deal with them. This man was so pitiable, standing in front of him. He thought for a few seconds and gazed around and asked him to go and sit quietly near a pillar on the other side of the room for some time and then come back to him.
The middle-aged man left Maha Periyava and went and sat near the pillar on the other side. Time passed slowly and he sat and observed people coming and going, the trays of fruits and other offerings they were bringing and his mind started calming down. Few hours had passed. He got up and went to Maha Periyava and asked for a remedy.
Maha Periyava replied, “I see that you are feeling less anxious than before, and you have calmed down. In this mindset, recite Rama Nama everyday. All your worries will melt away slowly”. The middle aged man asked, “I came to you seeking help, and I will listen & do as you tell me to. However, I want to understand how doing this will help me. Can you please explain?”.
Maha Periyava smiled and started explaining thus. “When you recite Rama Nama with a calm mind, the first person who hears it and comes to your rescue is Hanuman. When you continue reciting Rama Rama Rama, Sita devi comes, and wherever Hanuman and Sita are, Sri Rama and his family come. Wherever Ram parivar resides, Lord Shiva comes there, and wherever Lord Shiva is the Goddess of energy Lalithambika devi comes and resides there. You continue reciting Rama Nama, Lord Ganesha and Muruga come to reside there with their parents. And when all of them are there, listening to your Rama Nama recital, why would any worries or obstacles bother you. Easier ways to resolve your difficulties and help from friends and family come together easily. That is the power of Rama Nama. Recite and see for yourself”.
