Local entrepreneurs series #6 – Kancheevaram sarees

A common friend re-connected me with an old college friend – Prasanna, who has started a small business following her passion around sarees to sell Kancheevaram (Kanjeevaram) sarees online. Was inspired by her and writing this post to request support! During the pandemic, we can support local small businesses, and entrepreneurs in some way we can! Every bit counts!

To those who do not know Kanjeevaram sarees, they are well known for Silk sarees mostly. Traditional silk + cotton sarees are very popular for normal wear!  These saris are worn as bridal & special occasion saris by most women in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh in India. Kanjeevaram traditions, famous for its resplendent colors, weaves and motifs (decorative design or pattern of animal, bird, or traditional objects mostly on the borders of the sarees) that’s takes pride of the South Indian Arts and Culture.
