Embracing Change: The Key to Personal Growth

All of us want and expect growth in every facet of life. How can we grow?

Be you young or old, or in between

Be you poor or rich, or in between

Be you unskilled or experts, or in between

Everyone wants to grow, but growth

While growing feels natural, sometimes we feel stuck. Re-initiating growth after we face a few challenges becomes exponentially tough.

Some of us feel our lives comes to a standstill when we go through a few life events! Growth seems to stagnate after that. Like a bad grade in an exam. Losing a job can also be a significant event. Health issues of loved ones are challenging. Financial stress is another common experience. We can all name a few challenges that each of us go through in life.

We go through such events and take time to process them in our minds. Unless we comprehend our new/changing state of being, we feel our growth stagnates there. That becomes a big obstacle that changes our life.

All of our lives are different. While we have friends or colleagues studying or working at the same place, our backgrounds & lives are quite different. The challenges that each of us face and overcome are quite different. Our lives before our current challenges and after are very different. Every challenge teaches us something about life, and without gaining that piece of wisdom, we feel stuck.

The first step to growth is “Acceptance”. Accepting where we are and how we are is crucial. Recognizing the challenges we face is essential to be in the moment. This allows us to figure out ways to resolve them and grow through them. Our intentions to change status quo and work towards improving our current state of affairs is important. The ease with which we work towards changing it (not just dealing with it) helps us grow. Think about not just dealing with the issue at hand. Reflect on your own journey through the situation. Consider how and what you are learning from it. This reflection helps you grow through your challenges.

If you feel stuck and want to grow, think about what you have not accepted yet. Consider what is in your control that you can do in this new reality. Go about doing it, and slowly and steadily you will see yourself grow.

When you grow, realize how you are growing, and share with others to propel your growth further.
