Short story – Miracles #1

In 2019, during the Chithirai festival at Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, a celestial event occurred. Thousands of devotees gathered there. They came to witness the wedding of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar.

That year, heavy rains were predicted on the very day of the wedding procession. Organizers and devotees feared the celebrations might be disrupted. The city had already experienced sudden showers earlier in the week.

On the morning of the wedding, dark clouds gathered over Madurai. Just as the ceremony began, a loud thunderclap echoed, and everyone braced for the downpour. Devotees started praying loudly, calling on Amma Meenakshi to bless the day. To everyone’s astonishment, the clouds slowly parted. Sunlight streamed directly onto the temple’s golden towers. The rest of the city remained under a cloudy sky.

The entire ceremony went on without a single drop of rain. Hours later, the wedding concluded. The divine couple were taken inside the temple. Then, the skies opened. Heavy rain poured over the city. The rain cooled the parched land.

Locals and pilgrims alike called it a miracle of Goddess Meenakshi. They believed she had held back the rains just long enough to bless her devotees. Her intervention ensured her wedding was celebrated with joy. To this day, people who witnessed it remember the moment with goosebumps. They are convinced it was a sign of the Goddess’s protective grace.
