Slow down

Sometimes we need to hear this and take a step back to slow down in our lives.

One of my friends shared this poem written by Rebekah Knight. I do not know the author, but it struck a chord as a parent, trying to struggle to create time and space for loved one, even amidst dealing with crisis on different fronts of life! It just does not matter how busy you are, how important your work is, how dedicated you are about making a difference, if you are not living-in-the-moment with your family who matter the most.

Slow down mummy, there is no need to rush,
slow down mummy, what is all the fuss?
Slow down mummy, make yourself a cup tea.
Slow down mummy, come and spend some time with me.

Slow down mummy, let’s put our boots on and go out for a walk,
let’s kick at piles of leaves, and smile and laugh and talk.
Slow down mummy, you look ever so tired,
come sit and snuggle under the duvet and rest with me a while.

Slow down mummy, those dirty dishes can wait,
slow down mummy, let’s have some fun, let’s bake a cake!
Slow down mummy I know you work a lot,
but sometimes mummy, its nice when you just stop.

Sit with us a minute,
& listen to our day,
spend a cherished moment,
because our childhood is not here to stay!

I got emotional reading this and felt covid / no covid, life does seem to get stressful sometimes and we just need to take a step back and slow down. Prioritize and take things one step at a time, declutter our schedule and make time for an extra bit of fun with family! As simple as that.
