Attempting to try a few snacks from some of my favorite bloggers..!
This holiday season have been meaning to try some of the recipes of Sowmya https://sowmyasspicycorner.com/
Attempted to make this recipe – https://sowmyasspicycorner.com/2021/11/02/thenguzhal-murukku/
After a week or so of trying to find the murukku maker (handpress), I gave up and decided to buy one. Shopped around and finally found one store that sells it!
I wanted to get the one that Sowmya had used…
This is traditionally used by my mother & grandmother… however, could not find it in any nearby stores. So, ended up purchasing this one instead!

Used the same recipe ingredients and prepared the dough!
Then I started comparing the attachments and realized that this handpress does not have the 3-plain-holes attachment 🙁
I had the dough ready and had to improvise and chose to use the 3 hole attachment (different shape) instead! Had my share of experimentation to figure out how to rotate the handle and have the batter take the right shapes 🙂 But finally, made it through!

Flattened the dough and made Thattai, another South Indian snack as well with the same dough. Got to make these snacks at home after ages!
Sowmya – your recipe was wonderful and tasted great! Everyone at home enjoyed the snacks!
Thank you for sharing 🙂
I love murukku! The first kind of press is the same as what my mother used 🙂 We don’t find them anymore yes.
Exactly.. 🙂 need to find an alternate..!
Glad to see that you have tried my recipe Shanthy. Thattai looks delicious and crunchy.
Yes, some of those hand press do not have 3 holes. If it has 1 hole attachment, you can try making with it too.
Thanks Shanthy for sharing my website here. Grateful for this 🙏
Sure.. will try Sowmya 🙂 Thank you!
