Snow day – Things to do

Tomorrow has been declared as a snow day (amidst everything else that is going on :)). Even virtual / remote schools are closed.

When we read the message from school and heard the voicemail, happiness filled the air instantly and everyone started brainstorming 🙂

Ideal snow day activities for kids

  • Build a snowman
  • Have a snowball fight with family
  • Sit by the fireplace and have hot cocoa
  • Go skiing
  • Sing carols together
  • Make smores
  • Make some popcorn
  • Watch a Christmas movie
  • Bake some cookies
  • Go sledding
  • Make snow angels
  • Make an igloo
  • Visit friends and throw snowballs at them
  • Try to make use of tomorrow and be productive

What happens in reality

  • Wake up late
  • Complete 11:59 pm night homework submission
  • Do homework and more homework
  • Call up friends and chat
  • Study for tests this week and next week
  • Stay back home for safety reasons
  • Binge watch Netflix series
  • Be couch potatoes…
  • Laze around and catch up on missed sleep

Listening to kids, adults at home start brainstorming about our perfect snow day!

Adults perfect snow day

  • Cook together as a family
  • Bake cookies and make hot chocolate
  • Watch a family movie together
  • Hot hot samosas or spring rolls with tea
  • Make a snowman and decorate
  • Make footsteps in the snow

How the snow day turns out

  • Ensure candles and match sticks are in accessible places in case of power cut
  • Keep phones charged
  • Ensure all devices are connected through power surge protectors
  • Keep emergency numbers handy
  • Who is ready to plough the snow, check and have the contacts and costs handy
  • Roof leaks, water leaks, heating issues – be ready to have backup plans
  • Does the manual snow remover have gas? Fill gas and keep it ready
  • Be ready to clear the driveway yourself in case no one is ready to come
  • Ensure emergency food and supplies do not run out
  • Ensure grocery shopping includes planning for the emergency
  • Ensure water bottles are purchased
  • Driving challenges… let’s not think about that
  • … and the list goes on 🙂

Maybe it is time to just let go and have fun… to-do lists will continue to remain the day after as well 🙂
