Understanding To-do lists

Do you have the habit of making to-do lists? Then, this article is for you!

Some of us are adept at making to-do lists for any scenario! Over the years, we have perfected the method. We break down our goals into simpler, easy-to-complete activities. The underlying principle is that when we complete all of the activities listed, our goal would have been accomplished. This approach can get us the results we want!

Over years, those who have perfected this method tend to be great at project management. They excel at program management. Basically, they have the ability to manage a variety of threads with efficiency and ease!

One gets quite accustomed with the habit of making these lists. There is a tendency to start focusing on the trivial tasks. This can lead to losing the big picture.

Sometimes, we feel overwhelmed with the unending set of tasks and activities. We can continue to be busy (not productive). Yet, we feel unsatisfied that we are missing something.

The underlying goals lose focus. Why are we doing what we are doing loses focus. The tasks and activities continue to hold importance, as we multi-task through our days.

How do we get back to using this techniques the right way?

  1. Ask yourself the top 10 priorities in life. Write them down.
  2. Check your recent to-do-list
  3. How many of the activities (or %age) actually are relating to the most important priorities in life?
  4. Why are the top 3 priorities of life not having any relevant activities that fulfill them, making you happy?
  5. Are you focusing on trivial things to please someone else?
  6. Are you priorities in the right place & have you figured out how to achieve them?
  7. What will be the right tasks that need to be on your list?

Take a step back and analyze. You will know what is missing & take a break to figure out what needs to change.

Read the above slowly, and follow it step by step! You will realize the difference.
