Ayurveda – Gunas and Doshas

It was interesting to see how the food we eat relates to how our thoughts are processed by our mind and Ayurveda provides a clear explanation for the same!

For those who are new to Ayurveda (a discipline of medicine),

There are 3 types of gunas (characteristics). They are Sattva, Tamas and Rajas.

There are 3 types of doshas. They are Vata, Pitta, Kapha

Now, foods can be classified as Vata, Pitta and Kapha as well. Dietary changes can help change your state of mind and health!

  • For someone who suffers from insomnia, it would be easy to trigger sleep if they ate some Tamas food.
  • For someone who is confused, eating some sattvic food would help
  • You get the gist…! Use the appropriate foods to promote the feelings and health and correct your doshas or weaknesses by choosing a different type of food!

Simple, effective ways to cultivate good thoughts and good practices to self-heal and maintain health of family!

When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, you don’t need medicine!
